For those who want to learn about this centuries-old trade route with the East, I can highly recommend this article from the Journal of the American Oriental Society, “Some Aspects of the Overland Oriental Trade at the Christian Era” by Wilfred H. Schoff, Secretary of the Commercial Museum, Philadelphia, Pa.

It is concise, well written and gives in a handful of paragraphs a vivid description of the routes and the ways in which trade was carried out. Very worthwhile reading material!
